Ginny Buccelli, MFA

Writer

I have been working as a freelance writer and editor since 1992. In 2006, I graduated from the prestigious Antioch University-Los Angeles Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program (named one of the top five low-residency programs by The Atlantic).

I have finally stepped out of hiding as a creative writer (hence the MFA) and am actively involved in writing and finding the right markets for my work. My genre of choice at this moment is creative nonfiction. No, the creative part of that label does not mean that I make things up, it means that I work to make the mundane interesting and explore universal themes that thwart (or uplift) many people.

I love working with other writers. The energy that is created when we talk about structure and content and themes is inspiring. I especially enjoy helping other writers feel more comfortable sharing their work with the outside world. This takes many forms, from encouraging a colleague to submit, to teaching them how to conduct successful public readings of their own work.

Teacher

I have worked as a substitute teacher, a tutor, and taught at the college level. I currently run the Writing Center for the English Department at the main campus of Santa Rosa Junior College. I love, love, love working with the students there.

I also periodically offer classes and workshops.

Editor

The other side of my brain enjoys the oftentimes mundane details of formatting and proofreading manuscripts. I can copyedit, check that your margins and page numbers are where they belong, and read for cohesion of thought and structure.
